I don’t know about you but I’m a sucker for a nice glass of cabernet sauvignon…especially with dinner.. or watching a Lifetime movie, or… Ok I just like wine ok? Nothing wrong with a glass every now and then right?
Correct! Actually it’s been proven that wine (red specifically) has it’s benefits. I’m not just talking about the benefits like helping you recover from a long day of work or breaking the ice on a date. There are actual health benefits to drinking wine. Let’s review four of them shall we?
1. It Can Be Good For the Heart
Red wine is full of antioxidants. Antioxidants in red wine called polyphenols can help protect the lining of blood vessels in your heart, which prevents blood clotting.
2. It Can Lower Cholesterol and Blood Sugar
Red wine contains something called resveratrol, which is found in the skin of red grapes. It’s been proven that people who take resveratrol pills have experienced a decrease in cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
3. It Can Help Fight Off Diseases and Illnesses
Since red wine is high in antioxidants, it can help fight off the bad. Antioxidants are known to fight infections and protect cells against free radical damage. Ultimately, you could be preventing your body against cancer, common colds, and other diseases.
4. It Can Slim The Belly
Yes, one of the biggest problem areas is the belly. We’re always looking for new ways to burn that extra fat...waist trainers, Flat Tummy Tea, 500 sit-ups, you name it. Well apparently red wine can help! According to the Journal of Biological Chemistry, piceatannol, the chemical compound our bodies convert from resveratrol, is the magic. This has been proven to prevent the growth of fat cells.
