How To Avoid Gaining Weight During the Holidays

October is here. That means major holidays are coming: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years. Holiday season means endless treats, desserts, parties, and dinners. This can be a fun time for most of us but can also be a temptation to overeat and indulge in things we don't normally eat. Here are a few tips to help you stay on the right track this season.


1. Keep a strict workout schedule and stick to it.

Add your workouts to your phone's calendar and set reminders. The cold weather can discourage you from wanting to travel to the gym so be sure to have a backup home workout. 

 

2. Eat slowly and stop eating when you're full.

It's so easy to get caught up when food tastes amazing, I know. But overeating can result when you're not listening to your brain telling you that your stomach is full. 

 

3. Take your second plate home.

You're at a party and the food was great. You want to go back for seconds before it's all gone. Take the plate home and eat it for lunch or dinner the next day. Thank me later.

 

4. Pick your sweets carefully.

It's totally ok to treat yourself. Pick one or two sweets a week and don't go past that. So if there's donuts at your job but you know there'll be cake at your party this weekend, skip the donuts. Indulge later; you'll enjoy it more.

 

5. Volunteer to bring the healthy option.

If you're bringing something to the party, bring something healthy like a salad or vegetable entree.
