Break Time Bliss: Why Self-Care Means Taking a Break (or Five)

Welcome back to our self-care series, where September is all about self-care.

This week is all about taking breaks, or 5 (;

Remember, even just one small thing can revitalize your bliss! Don’t be afraid to explore.

In a world that never seems to hit pause, the idea of taking a break can sometimes feel like a luxury you can't afford. But here's a little secret: breaks aren't just a nice-to-have—they're an essential part of maintaining your sanity and overall well-being. Whether you're juggling work, relationships, or the endless pull of your smartphone, here's why hitting the pause button on various aspects of your life can be a game changer and a necessity when it comes to self-care. Let’s talk about some ways to turn breakdowns into breakthroughs throughout our week.

Mental Breaks: Because Your Brain Needs a Nap Too

Let’s face it: our brains are like high-performance engines. But even the best engines need a pit stop to avoid overheating. Mental breaks are your brain’s way of saying, “Help, I need a nap!” When you step away from a problem or task, you give your brain a chance to reset and come back with a fresh perspective. It’s like giving your mind a mini-vacation without the sand in your shoes. Making sure we time block our activities will help us not only enjoy our time away but be ready for when it's time to come back! Think of it as letting your brain catch its breath. A fresh new perspective awaits.

Partner Breaks: Because Love Needs Room to Breathe

Even the strongest relationships need a little breathing room. Spending time apart can actually help you appreciate each other more when you’re together. It’s the “absence makes the heart grow fonder” thing, but with fewer clichés and more Netflix binging in your sweatpants. It’s like giving your relationship a mini-vacation. And remember, if you’re both “vacationing” at home, the Wi-Fi password is still the same! Scheduling a date afterward to share and embrace your partner can help enhance your relationship.

Kid Breaks: Because Even Superparents Need to Recharge

Parenting is a full-time job with no sick days or vacation time. But even the most devoted parents need a break. Kid breaks—whether it’s a solo grocery run, a quiet coffee shop visit, or just locking the bathroom door and telling the kids that mommy will be right back—are essential for maintaining your sanity. These breaks allow you to recharge and come back ready to tackle bedtime stories and endless questions with a smile.

Self-care for you is also self-care for your children! Think of it as sending your kids on a “mini-adventure” while you take a “sabbatical” from the chaos. Everyone benefits from a little alone time—yes, even superheroes.

Work Breaks: Because Productivity Needs a Breakdance

Ever find yourself staring at your screen, wondering if you’ve forgotten how to think? That’s your cue for a work break. Stepping away from your desk—even for just a few minutes—can boost creativity and productivity. Your brain needs to stretch its legs (metaphorically speaking) and get some fresh air to keep those innovative juices flowing. Shake off the bad vibes because we don’t let idiots ruin our day. Take this time to go for a walk outside and get your vitamin D while you still can. Get those steps in! Imagine your work break as a dance party for your brain. It’s time for your neurons to boogie down before getting back to the grind.

Digital Breaks: Because Your Screen Isn’t Your Bestie, We are <3

Let’s be real: digital devices can be as addictive as chocolate—literally. But spending all day glued to screens isn’t just bad for your posture—it’s also terrible for your mental and eye health. Taking a digital break helps you reconnect with the real world and gives your eyes a much-needed rest. Your presence is a present.

Intermittent Fasting: Why Taking Food Breaks Might Be Your Secret Weapon

Intermittent fasting doesn’t require complicated meal plans or restrictive diets. It simply involves cycling between eating and fasting periods. This can make it easier to integrate into various lifestyles, as it doesn’t necessitate drastic changes in your eating habits. If you’re looking to improve your blood sugar levels, reduce inflammation, and develop mental clarity, intermittent fasting may be for you!

Breaking your fast is said to be the most important benefit of this lifestyle. When you do eat, focus on nutrient-dense foods that provide sustained energy and essential vitamins and minerals. Incorporate lean proteins, healthy fats, and fiber-rich vegetables into your meals. This helps ensure that when you break your fast, your body is getting the most bang for its nutritional buck! When I’m craving something sweet, I like a banana with peanut butter and dark chocolate chips…YUM! Or if you’re craving something salty, reach for the nuts (;

Embrace the rhythm of fasting and eating, and let your body enjoy the benefits of these well-timed food breaks. Remember, intermittent fasting isn’t just about skipping meals; it’s about making the most of the time you spend nourishing your body.

The Ultimate Challenge: One Hour Digital Detox

Here’s a challenge to get you started: for the next week, dedicate one hour each day to a digital detox. That means no phones, tablets, or computers. Use this time to reconnect with yourself, your surroundings, or your loved ones.

  • No scrolling before bed and when you first wake up.

  • Stretch

  • Relax with a face mask

  • Read a good book

  • Meditate

  • Journal

  • Masturbate

  • Take a bath

  • Take a dance class

  • Meal prep

  • Dinner with the family with no phones. The first one to take it out has to pay the bill (;

We're working on our pleasure-reward system now. Incorporating these breaks into your routine, you’ll find yourself more refreshed, restored, focused, and ready to tackle whatever life throws your way.

Get things checked off your list, don’t forget to time block, and we can take that well-deserved break <3
